Why I built this

A founder's honest story

I built Retainly because I was watching customers cancel and doing nothing about it. Every time someone clicked "Cancel", I felt helpless — I didn't know why they were leaving, and I had no way to make them an offer or even ask a question.

I looked at Churnkey. It's excellent. But at $250/month, it only makes sense if you're already doing serious MRR. For the thousands of indie founders doing €2K–€15K MRR, there's nothing — you either build it yourself or you just let people walk out the door.

So I built Retainly. Simple, affordable, Stripe-native. The tool I wished existed when I needed it.

Questions & answers

Do I need to change my existing cancel button code?

No. You paste one JavaScript snippet into your site's <head> or <body>, then tell Retainly the CSS selector of your cancel button. We handle everything from there — intercepting the click, showing the modal, and communicating with Stripe if the customer accepts an offer.

How does the Stripe integration work?

You connect your Stripe account via Stripe Connect (OAuth). Retainly gets read/write access to subscriptions only — to apply discounts, activate pauses, or confirm cancellations. We never touch your payouts or financial data.

What if my customers are on different subscription plans?

Retainly reads the customer's current plan from Stripe and can show different offers per plan. You configure the logic in your dashboard — e.g., only show a 20% discount to customers on the paid plan, show a downgrade to the free plan for trial users.

Is this compliant with GDPR?

Yes. We only store exit survey responses and metadata (plan, timestamp, outcome). No PII unless you pass it to us explicitly. Data is stored in EU-region Supabase infrastructure. We provide a DPA on request.
